Dark Days (so far)

Good Evening Everyone:

First and foremost, from our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!! Hopefully everyone is able to get some rest and some quality time with their families.

Next, our preliminary list of dark days. These are days that the display will be dark, due to some commitments that we cannot wiggle out of.
So far, it’s just November 26 and December 16.

Remember, though, that chances are that the weather here in CNY will not always be cooperative with our plans. Stay tuned here, on our Facebook page (Koehler Family Christmas) and on our Twitter feed ( @koehlerfamxmas) for latest info when the weather is in doubt.

We’ve been running the display as an “animated” display so far this week (moving and blinking but not synchronized to music) and will continue to do so.

We are on track for our big Opening Night Extravaganza on Friday, with shows at 6, 7 and 8 PM. We appreciate your continued support. Remember, everything we do supports the Food Bank of Central New York.

Hope to see you at our display soon!!

Halloween Sneek Peek!!

Hi, Everyone:

Well, we were all LIT UP for Halloween with out annual SNEEK PEEK!! It went very well, and we had a TON of kids and families come by for trick-or-treat. We were as bright as the sun and the weather finally cooperated. The really cool thing is that, for the first time ever, there were people that stopped by with donations for the Food Bank of Central New York!! It was an amazing experience, and we were glad that we could make it happen. Thanks to all who stopped by!!

Now that that’s over, we are back at work getting everything ready for our light-up on Black Friday, November 24, at 6:00 PM. We have more pixels to put up, more songs to sequence, and there’s candy to pack up 😉

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and made our Sneek Peek a success!!

2017 IS HERE!!

Hello Everyone:

Welcome back to our site, koehlerfamilychristmas.com!!

It’s been a long wait, but we’re finally back for the 2017 season!! We will be up and mostly running for the annual Halloween Sneek Peek on Tuesday, October 31 at dusk.

We open for the 2017 season on Black Friday, November 24, with 3 shows on Fridays and Saturdays, at 6, 7 and 8 PM. Sundays we will have 2 shows, at 6 and 7 PM. Shows once again will last about 20-25 minutes and the lights will be running constantly between shows as well.

As you know, being in Central New York, we have weather and schedule conflicts. For your safety as well as ours, we cannot run the display in bad weather. The best way to check and make sure we’re “lit” before you come by is to either check here, follow us on Twitter @koehlerfamxmas and to like us on Facebook, Koehler Family Christmas.

During the week, feel free to drop by, as the display will be running in an “animation” mode and we’ll have Christmas music running in our radio station, which you can tune into at FM 90.7 MHZ. The lights won’t be synchronized, but it’s still pretty cool to see.

We’ll also have special themed nights, like a TransSiberian Orchestra night and a classic Christmas night. Details will be forthcoming. We’ll also post some pictures soon of the setup for this year, so you can watch our progress.

As always, thank you everyone for your support of Koehler Family Christmas, and the Food Bank of Central New York!!

Well be dark for 2016, but….

Hello Everyone:

After much thought, we’ve decided to take one more year off. Don’t think that we are just sitting around, though. We’re already working on the software and hardware for next year’s show. Trust us when we tell you, it’ll be something to behold. In the meantime, please do what you can about supporting the Food Bank of Central New York. They do a lot for our community (a very large swath of New York, actually) and especially at this time of the year, they really need our help. Thank you again, and we will start giving you status updates after the New Year. From all of us, to all of you, HAVE A RESTFUL AND JOYOUS HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

Koehler Family Christmas.

Our 2014 Season Is Right Around The Corner!!!

Good evening, peeps. Hope everyone has had a fantastic weekend. Too bad the lweekend wasn’t 3 more days longer…….

Here’s the deal for our upcoming 2014 season.

We will not be opening up on Black Friday as we have in the past. We’re taking the Thanksgiving holiday weekend OFF!! We will, however, be up and running in a “static” format on Monday, December 1, and tweaking all week. So if you want to stop or drive by, listen to some Christmas music and take a peek, feel free.

We will be having our traditional “sneek peek” on Halloween. Stop by, get some sweet snacks, listen to some Halloween music and don’t forget to bring your SUNGLASSES!! Fun starts at 5pm and ends at 7:30pm.

Our official OPENING NIGHT will be Friday, December 5, at 6 pm. As in the past, shows will be at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm, and last 20-25 minutes. As before, you can stay in your car and listen on 90.7 FM or get out and listen on our sound system.

We have retooled a lot of our display…I think you’ll be amazed at what you find when you get here.

As in the past, we will be accepting non-perishable food items in addition to monetary or check donations on behalf of the Food Bank of Central New York.

Please see our website, koehlerfamilychristmas.com for directions, special tidbits, videos, and progress reports on how the setup process is coming along. Also, our Twitter feed will be running again soon, Koehlerfamxmas. Like us here on FB, subscribe to our blog and follow us on Twitter for up to the minute schedule changes, weather cancellations and updates.

Thank you very much for your interest, support and help in making 2014 the best year EVER here at Koehler Family Christmas.

A FINAL THANK YOU FROM 2013!!!

Hello, folks. Happy New Year!!!

Well, we went to the Food Bank of Central New York yesterday to drop off our “booty” to them.

The news is pretty cool. We ended up with 955 lbs of food for them, and $715.10 in cash and checks.

I don’t know what to say. The generosity of all of our friends and visitors is overwhelming. Somehow, to say THANK YOU is woefully inadequate.

We need to say THANK YOU to a number of people. The folks at WSYR Channel 9…Andrew Andrew Donovan (one of our most ardent supporters) Rachel Polansky…Carrie Lazarus..Tim Fox….the Photojournalists from Channel 9 (Bill? I could be wrong, sorry!)

The people at YNN, Time Warner Cable. Here multiple times under difficult circumstances. Iris St. Meran, for one. I know I forgot a couple of you, sorry.

Kathy Rowe at Y94FM….thanks so much!!!

Anthony Marrone, wife Melissa, and Vera House of CNY…another great supporter. Thank You!!

Teresa Marcely Neider….what would we do without you!!

The guys at Crouse….Bob Allen. Cheryl Abrams. Thanks for the publicity!!

I’m sure I forgot several people and organizations…I’m sorry, but post-call Jeff strikes again. I can’t thank you enough for the support that everyone has given us over the past few years. Without everyone’s support, we would not be able to do what we do.

And to my wife, Jean Koehler, and children, who essentially were without their husband and father for almost 3 months, thank you for your support and help. the bummer is that you get me back now!!

To everyone, from Koehler Family Christmas, please have a safe, happy peaceful New Year, and may it be happier and healthier than 2013!!

THANK YOU!!!

Hello, folks.

Well, another season of lights and music has come and gone.

We won’t have an exact count till later in the week, but I do know we beat last season’s totals by far and away. Our last night, which is a Sunday, saw us far busier than we’ve been traditionally.

I’m very, very proud of the work that we’ve done, and the success that we’ve had this year. But, it’s not just the lights, or the music that do it. There are many, many people and organizations that have helped us along the way, all year long. We’ll announce how we did and try to say thank you to everyone in a few days, after we get with the food bank and get our results.

We did have some technical issues, which will be resolved next year, if we do decide that we will continue on. But, all in all, we’re pretty pleased with the show that we put together and the way it went.

Again, our first THANK YOU for everything that everyone has done for us throughout 2013. Best wishes to everyone for a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year. We’ll have more info in a few days.

SANTA’S BIG DAY HAS ARRIVED!!

Hello, everyone.

Well, the big day has finally come. Santa’s big day. Leaving for work this morning, I was outside cleaning off my car, and the lights were off. It was incredibly quiet, and it was flurrying just a little bit. I was imagining what it would be like in 12 hours….lights on, snowing just a bit, happy children running around.

Everything is ready….almost. The last minute details are being tended to in the workshop.

We’ll have the lights up at 7 PM. It’ll be a longer than usual show, 40-45 minutes, and Santa and his elves will arrive towards the end of the show with goodies for everyone.

This is what it’s all about….quiet, peace, music and lights.

Try to get here early….and once again, thank you so much for all you’ve done to support Koehler Family Christmas and the Food Bank of Central New York.
